FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. How many people are in a workshop?

We believe people learn best in small groups, so everyone can get the individual attention they require. For this reason workshops are limited to 6 people, and a second tutor will be present where the group size is 6-12.

2. What kind of camera do I need?

For One-on-One workshops, the lesson will be tailored to you needs, so we can work with whatever camera you have, from a point and shoot compact camera upwards. For group workshops we recommend a DSLR or mirrorless camera. All camera brands are welcome. Bring any lenses you have, and a fully charged battery and a memory card with plenty of room on it. It can be helpful to bring your camera manual and any other accessories you have. We have several Canon DSLR cameras available to rent if you would like you would like to try one out for the workshop, before investing in your own camera equipment. These do need to be pre-booked in advance.

3. What experience do I need to attend a workshop?

Absolutely none for our Beginners or One-on-One tuition!  We can teach you how to confidently master your camera and all the many functions. For the Beyond Beginners or the specialist classes, we require you have to have completed a Beginners Workshops with us, or have some camera confidence and be at a level where you are shooting on semi automatic modes (Aperture or Shutter Speed priority) or full manual mode.

4. How are the workshops structured?

Some of the workshops such as Beginners and Beyond Beginners are set over two weekends. The first session is held at Photo Warehouse, 175 Great North Road, Ponsonby and will cover theory. The second session a week later is a practical session and will be held at an Auckland outdoor location (details provided in each workshops booking info), where you get to put the theory into practice. We have structured the workshops in this manner as we have found it enables people time to digest all the information from the first session and have a play around with their cameras. People then return to us at the second session and we can answer any queries that have arisen and get started on taking beautiful photographs. The remainder of workshops are one day sessions. Location details of each workshop can be found in the booking information.

5. How do I book a workshop?

You can book any of our workshops online and make payment via bank transfers, and debit or credit card.

6. What shall I wear?

Make sure you are comfortable and can move easily with practical shoes. When we out and about (week 2 of the Beginners and Beyond Beginners and One-on-One Tuition) please make sure you are warm and have comfortable walking shoes.
